The Photographers

About Us

Two perspectives. One passion. Jen and Richard photograph weddings across Perth and Western Australia, bringing light, colour and cinematic storytelling to every day they document.

Jen

The Photographer

Jen

It all started when Jen was a little girl, at age six she got her first camera as a birthday present. At the age of seven she won a second camera in a colouring competition, showing her early inclination towards the art of photography.

Before she turned ten, Jen captured her memories of family trips around Asia in black-and-white photos, cultivating her interest in people, places, light, stories and photography itself. Her lifelong passion was developed along with her passion for fine-art photography.

Jen received a Diploma of Photography at Central TAFE and a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Curtin University. She also has some professional experience in the fields of advertising design and film and television, which contributed to her skills in composition and creative direction.

She has worked for many magazines, got awards and recognition by the industry and had her photography displayed in many exhibitions across Australia including Parliament House in Canberra.

Jen is known especially for her stunning portraits, clever use of colour and perfect attention to details. Her special gift of capturing a moment and its beauty in every single photograph whether it is a facial expression, gesture, landscape or smallest wedding day detail.

Combining her photography experience with her knowledge of design she creates her own unique imagery, elegant and expressive.

Jen's approach to wedding photography is based on the desire to make those ephemeral moments eternal, photographs which will take you back to your wedding day after many years have passed.

Richard

The Photographer

Richard

There was nothing usual about Richard's path to photography.

He has a Bachelor of Science degree, double majoring in Computer Science and Information Technology from the University of Western Australia. After university, he worked for the likes of Glencore, Shell, Chevron, Woodside and INPEX in the energy business. Richard also pursued high-performance martial arts outside of work since the age of 10. He was a captain in Western Australia, coached in the state, a Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist, and represented the Australia in international tournaments.

Engineering and high-performance martial arts seem to be very different from weddings.

But they define the way Richard operates completely.

Years spent in a high-pressure environment gave Richard the fundamentals: discipline, preparation and continuous striving for excellence. But throughout those years, his true passion has always been the arts.

Photography changed the way Richard sees the world around him. It opened his eyes to fleeting, silent moments. Light falling on the field, a quick glance between people, raw emotion, atmosphere, movement.

Richard's photographic style goes beyond wedding photography completely. Influenced by the storytelling techniques of Annie Leibovitz, the dramatic style of Joey Lawrence and the classic lighting of Rembrandt, Richard shoots photographs the way he would paint a picture. Richard is also heavily influenced by cinema. His style is greatly inspired by directors such as Christopher Nolan and Denis Villeneuve. Richard uses environment, scale and lighting to make his work cinematic.

For Richard, a wedding day is the greatest painting he can paint.

It combines people, fashion, architecture and changing natural light in one event. Instead of recording a series of events, he strives to interpret the day visually and to see the details in simple moments.

“Your wedding deserves to be photographed with intention, artistry and a genuine understanding of what makes the day yours.”

Together, they combine beautiful light, rich colour, considered composition, cinematic storytelling and authentic emotion to create photographs that are more than a record of the day . They are designed to become part of your family history, photographs that bring back not only what your wedding looked like, but how it felt to be there.
